What is your opinion on the name Dean for a boy?

We have a complicated, hard to spell/pronounce last name, so want a relatively simple first name.

We're also looking for something that isn't too common (not top 20) but something everyone has heard of. If you have any other suggestions, I'd really appreciate them! Thanks!

What is your opinion on the name Dean for a boy?
That is my husband's name...i love it:):):)
Reply:I like it but honestly it is outdated. It reminds me of a 1960s name. Maybe another basic name...Joe, Bill, Mike, Jake?
Reply:Thats One Of My Faves!!!
Reply:I like your criteria for selecting your baby's name.

Reply:Check out the social security administration website for the popularity of a name, or do the reverse and look in the middle of the list for names that are not too common, yet not unheard of.

Reply:i know a guy named dean %26amp; he goes by initials (dj) instead of his name. uncommon names are Haven, Hayden, Carson, Carter, Parker, Hudson, or Damian.
Reply:Sorry, but I don't like it (even though Howard Dean is one of my favorite politicians).

What about:

Reply:Dean is a very nice, solid name. It is simple, but attractive. If you are looking for a name that is short and easy to pronounce some ideas are:

Gage

Isaac

Grey

Silas

All are traditional names that aren't used as much anymore. They are also very uncomplicated and clearly male--no mistaking the name for a girl's!
Reply:I knew a Dean in High School, he was pretty popular, he was the only Dean I knew, so it can't be very popular... it's a good strong name though and it is smart that you want to keep the first name simple when your last name could be hard...
Reply:im not a fan it makes me think of the deans list or something. i like james or adam.
Reply:Dean is a good name. I like it.
Reply:I like Dean.

I also like Clint, as something simple but different. Always been a big fan of Jack too.

Nate?

Reply:in my opinion i don't like this name i think it sounds like a old person name or like and it reminds me of sausage like jimmy deans. i like the names, max luke, nathan, thomas, joseph,charley%26lt;3,samual,samson%26lt;3,bible names
Reply:I love it! It's a handsome, masculine name that sounds authoritative without sounding bully-ish. I think if you want something that isn't too common but that everyone has heard of (my favorite kind of names), then Dean is a very good choice.
