What do you think of when you think of the boy's name "Aidan"?

My sister is pregnant with twins and this is a name they are considering. Also Aubrey or Anna if one is a girl, and other boys' names are Ian, Owen and Dylan. We are curious what personality types people out there think of when they hear these names.

What do you think of when you think of the boy's name "Aidan"?
I LOVE the name Aidan. I could be biased though, because that's our son's name. When we named him I had never even HEARD it, but actually picked it from a book of traditional Irish names because it meant "Fire of God" in it's origional form, and that goes very well with his middle and our last name (our son's full name means "fire of God from deep waters of the island"). Of course, the traditional Irish spelling is a little scary so I took the modern version instead. Also, I really liked the story of Saint Aidan-an Irish Catholic saint who built schools for poor children and lived a very humble life. It's true you can't swing a cat without hitting an Aidan/Brayden/Jayden/Kayden/Haden these days, but if you really like it then I say go for it.

I like the name Aubrey as well, and I think having twins named Aidan and Aubrey would be cute!
Reply:Personally, Aidan, Hayden, Jaden, Caden....are so so so OVER RATED. In 5 yrs. there will be 6 kids in class with the same name. That's tortue!
Reply:I think of "the professor"...on John and Kate plus 8, that show on the discovery channel about the couple with twins and sextuplets...One of her son's names is Aiden, and they call him the professor because he wears glasses and always looks deep in thought...but it's in a cute way, not a dorky way. It's soooo cute!
Reply:Do you picture a 65 year old getting social security checks named Aidan? You could name twin boys Aidan and Abettan.
Reply:I don't know why, but I think "broken" when I hear "Aiden"

Owen means marrijuna thanks to actor owen wilson who is a pot-head who plays "the buddy" character in movies.

Dylan means scratchy bad voice thanks to Bob Dylan, no matter how good a song-writer he is.

Ian is okay, but this is the age of the internet. Give a super-hero name!

Aubrey is terrible. Avoid these names with double-vowels, nobody will ever be able to spell them right.
Reply:Aidan: I think of someone outgoing, athletic, popular. Ian: smart, independent and self-assured. Owen: likable and sweet. Dylan: I get no feeling from that name at all, no idea why. Anna: sweet, smart, kind of shy. Aubrey: more outgoing, independent, funny.
Reply:I think they are all over-used.
Reply:Aiden was number 2 on the SSA list for 2007, and will most likely be way up there for 2008. It's very very common, so therefore, me, I don't like the overly common names, so I think of that little boy being in a classroom with 3 other Aidens.

I really like Aubrey and Dylan. Those are very cute and not too uncommon, just forgot about and need to be let out!
Reply:I liked it years ago when I only knew of Aidan Quinn, the actor. But now it's TOO POPULAR. I mean it's cute, but not that cute that every other child needs to have that name. The only name I like on your sisters list is Aubrey. That's really cute.
Reply:Owen: Love.

Dylan: Dated.

Ian: Hate.

Aubrey: Like.

Anna: Too simple.

Aidan: Hate.
Reply:Aidan makes me think of the character with that name from Sex and the City tv show.

*from website*

Aidan Shaw (John Corbett) is Carrie's other long-term boyfriend. He is a sweet, good-natured furniture designer and Mr. Big's emotional opposite. At first Carrie is put off by their seemingly perfect relationship, but over time works through her issues of emotional unavailability. However, Aidan ends "it" when she comes clean about her affair with Big. They get back together a year later, eventually move in together and she accepts his marriage proposal before they realize that, ultimately, she cannot meet his needs and they break up for good. It is later revealed that Aidan marries and has a son, Tate.
Reply:Years ago (like 25 years ago) I thought the name Aidan was great, but you'd have to be a total lemming to name your child Aidan/Aiden today. I also like Owen and Ian, which were not common, but very standard real names. I would still go with them, even if they are getting a little faddish. Aubrey is too trendy now. Anna has character -- a timeless name. Dylan -- just run from it. It's been driven into the ground for a long, long time. It will take a couple of generations before it loses it's hippie image.
Reply:LOVE Aidan! I prefer the spelling Aiden..but two a's are just as good! Out of the names listed above I like Anna and Dylan..
Reply:My honest first impression on these names:

*Dylan-bad kid (I've only known "bad" Dylans)

*Owen-blah

*Ian-skinny, artsy, withdrawn type

*Aidan-manly and strong (makes me think of Aidan from Sex and the City)

*Aubrey-high maintenance chic, kinda bratty

*Anna-simple, modest, the underestimated type
