What do you think of the name Eloy for a boy?

It is pronounced EE-loy (as in boy)

It's of Spanish, French and Latin origin, and it means "chosen one".

What do you think of it?

What do you think of the name Eloy for a boy?
I think it sounds awkward and people will always be calling him Eli.
Reply:What a great name. I like non-standard name.
Reply:nothing.what you mean about LEON
Reply:Sorry no I don't like it
Reply:I had to look THREE (3) times b4 I realized it was not el-ROY!? You can BET that the majority of other people thruout his life will do the same. They'll misspell it Elroy %26amp; call him Elroy. (%26amp; peers will tease by calling him Alloy, asking about his dad, George Jetson, %26amp; Jane, his wife), etc.

babyhill said Elijah *** gorgeous!! My FAV male 'e' name, has biblical meaning, %26amp; isn't over used either! PLEASe if yu're naming a child, name him Elijah!

eloy is NOT good!
Reply:I have to be honest here and say I much prefer the name "Ely" [ee-lye] or even better - Elijah [ee-lye-sha]! Eloy doesn't appeal to me, but these are similar versions that do. I love the meaning though :]

Ely- means 'the Lord is exalted'

Elijah- 'the Lord is my God'

...quite Biblical meanings here, but I still like the names very much.
Reply:I think its really nice!!!!

Its so different but not too different. I would consider calling my son that!!
Reply:its different..

Reply:no way
Reply:The first thing you should ask yourself when naming a child is will it be used to tease them at school. My name is different and I suffered terribly. But then again people name their kids really strange things these days ... so at the end of the day it is what you like.
Reply:i think it is great different with good meanin
Reply:I gotta be honest, I don't like it....It sounds kinda....OOH i DON'T KNOW...wrong.
Reply:Eloy is a name of French Saint.

It is pure, simple and undiluted name.
Reply:I hate it. It's somewhere between Eeyore and Elroy.

Eli or Elijah is a much better choice there but if you love it then go for it.

Eloy makes me think of a chubby, shorter fellow.
Reply:Honestly I would not be my choice but I guess it's alright...it has a nice meaning...

Good luck x
