What do you think of the name Leonardo for a boy?

What impression does this name give to you? Would it be easy to pronounce? Is it common around your area?


Also, do you think it would be appropriate to name a child Leonardo considering that my husband and I aren't of Italian decent?

Sure it's a very beautiful name for a boy.You may call him Leo.
Reply:I love the name. I also like variations on the name: Leopold, Leon, %26amp; Leo. I think it sounds brave and strong, like a lion and it doesn't matter if you are or aren't Itallian you can still use it so long as it sounds nice with your last name. The only conotation I think it might bring up is actor Leonardo DiCaprio or painter Leonardo DaVinci but I don't think either of those is bad.

Reply:No there's already a inventor/sculptor/painter, actor, and a ninja turtle with that name.
Reply:I don't know anyone named Leonardo, so it's definatly not common in my area. It's a nice strong sounding name, but it also does remind me of the ninja turtles.

Reply:I don't think there's anything wrong with Leonardo. Sure, others will have their own opinions, but if you are pregnant, which I assume you are, and you like the name, then why not? I think others like to stereotype names. Such as Leonardo Davinci, Leonardo Di'Caprio etc etc. It worked for them so why not your child. As for it being Italian, and you're not. It doesn't matter. Nobody puts a claim on names so you can name him anything you want to. :)





I named one of my children Jayce, after an old kids TV programme called Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors. It was a programme my partner and I liked as children and were stuck for a boys name. There were a few family members and friends who had taken a dislike to the name but I didn't care. It was my baby, and my right to name him what I wanted to. And now 2 years on he is a Jayce through and through. No other name would suit him.





So at the end of the day, you do what you want to do. Your child, your choice and your prerogative :)
Reply:i know nobody named leonoardo! so if your looking for something unique i would go for it and call him leo, or even lee. ofcourse when i hear "leonardo" i immediately think of a painter/artist or atleast someone very wealthy/royal/famous. and it is easy to pronounce lee-on-are-do, simple! good luck!!!

And just because you're not Italian doesn't mean you can't use the name, girl! :-)

Reply:I like the name Leonardo and any name that you decide to name your child would be appropriate! Your son might get called Leo or Leon for short (Leonardo). Leonardo is an easy name to pronounce and the name gives me the impression of a creative genius!

I don't think there's any problem with you choosing another Italian name, though, as long as you realize that people will probably assume he's Italian.
